Even though we are almost in the year 2009, the LS1 is still a favorite of many GM enthusiasts nation wide. The LS3 is now the default big dog for the Corvettes and other GM cars, but still a lot of enthusiasts are buying LS1s. Why you might ask? Main reason is affordability! It really is the best bang for your buck if you plan on putting in a new engine for your Firebird or Camaro. I mean if you think the LS3 has such better performance, you won't think that after you upgrade to a set of nice AFR heads and a patriot camshaft. You would actually be producing a lot more horsepower than an LS3. So there is really no point in buying a new LS2 or LS3 if you are replacing your engine and you are short on money. Go with an LS1, you can't go wrong!
